Become a Licensed Reading for Sure Provider – FAQ

Thinking about becoming a reading tutor with Reading for Sure? Here are answers to our most frequently asked questions about training, costs, support, and getting started.

What will I gain by becoming a Reading for Sure provider?

Becoming a Reading for Sure provider is more than just a business opportunity — it’s a chance to build a lifestyle that aligns with your values.

You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Help students thrive — especially those who need targeted, effective literacy support

  • Choose your own hours and work in a way that suits your lifestyle

  • Slow down and create a more balanced or flexible work path

  • Use your natural skills — empathy, patience, and clear communication — to make a real impact

  • Stay independent from the traditional education system, while still supporting student learning

Where is Reading for Sure based?

Reading for Sure is based in Carlisle, Western Australia. However, our training is available Australia-wide and internationally.

Do I need to visit your office to complete the training?

No. All training can be completed online, from wherever you are.

Is this training right for me?

This training is designed for people who care deeply about helping children learn to read and are open to learning with guidance and support.

You don’t need to be an expert.
–You don’t need to have run a business before.
–You don’t need to have all the answers right now.

Many Reading for Sure tutors come from backgrounds such as teaching, education support, tutoring, homeschooling, parenting or allied roles — but what matters most is your willingness to learn and your commitment to supporting children thoughtfully and patiently.

Do I need formal teaching qualifications?

No formal teaching qualification is required.

What is required is a genuine interest in helping children who struggle with reading and a willingness to follow a structured approach.

The training is designed to build your confidence step by step, with clear guidance rather than assumptions about prior knowledge.

Teaching qualifications can be an advantage, but as the program is so structured and repeatable, you don’t need to be a teacher or have formal qualifications to go on to be a successful Reading for Sure tutor.
What you do need:

–Strong spoken and written English

–Clear pronunciation (especially for phonics instruction)

–Patience, empathy, and a willingness to learn

Our step-by-step system and mentoring support means even those with little teaching experience can succeed.

How is the training delivered?

Training includes:

–Self-paced online modules (theory, video tutorials, and written guides)

–Practical experience with real students using our materials

You will need to organise a small number of practice students in your local area to complete this stage.

What exactly will I be trained to do?

You’ll be trained to deliver the Reading for Sure approach with confidence and consistency.

This includes:

Understanding how and why children struggle with reading

–Learning a clear, structured approach to instruction

–Working one-on-one with children

–Building confidence in your teaching decisions

–Knowing how to support both children and their families

The focus is practical and grounded in real experience, not theory for theory’s sake.

Will I get support during training?

Yes. Ongoing support is a core part of the Reading for Sure pathway.

You are not expected to finish training and then “figure it out” on your own. Support is built in so that you can continue to grow, ask questions and refine your practice over time.

This is one of the key differences between Reading for Sure and one-off online courses.

What technology do I need?

You’ll need:

A computer/laptop

–Internet connection

–Zoom access

You do not need digital tools for teaching — our method is hands-on. If you choose to buy extra downloadable materials, a printer may be helpful.

How long does the training take?

While the online modules can be completed in just a few hours, the practice teaching takes longer. We suggest allowing up to 6 months to complete the training, as it depends on student availability. The teaching time will only be a few hours each week depending on the number of practice students you have.

Why do I need practice students?

Our approach is unique — you’ll need hands-on time to become confident with:

–The materials

–Delivering the lessons

–Tracking student progress

Even if you’ve tutored before, this practical experience is essential.

What kind of business can I build?

There is no single “right” way to do this.

Some tutors choose to:

Work as the sole tutor in a small, flexible micro business

–Work part-time or full-time

–Fit tutoring around family or other commitments

Others choose to:

Start as a tutor and later grow into a tutoring practice

–Support and employ part-time tutors

–Build a business beyond their own teaching hours

Both pathways begin with the same training.

You don’t need to decide your long-term direction before you start.

How much time does this require?

The time commitment varies depending on:

–How many students you choose to work with

–Whether you work part-time or full-time

–Your personal goals and availability

The training itself is designed to be manageable and realistic, particularly for people balancing other responsibilities.

What we can say with confidence is that the training equips you with the skills, structure and support needed to build a sustainable tutoring business over time.

What if I’m not sure I’m ready?

That’s completely normal.

Many people enquire before they feel “ready” — and often readiness comes through understanding the pathway, not before it.

You are never pressured to move forward.
Enquiring is simply a way to explore whether this feels like the right fit for you.

How do I attract students?

We help you get started with:

–A personal profile on our website

–Targeted initial marketing

–An official @readingforsure.com.au email address

–Optional free website hosting on a readingforsure subdomain

Plus, we give you:

–Posters, brochures, and business cards

–Tips for using social media, Facebook groups, and word of mouth

You’re supported — but you’ll grow your  business at your own pace.
